Each person’s life story is unique. If we choose it, therapy enables us to implement positive change in the every day events which become our life stories. My own began when I chose to work with teens in high school, first as a teacher and then as a counselor. I have over 25 years of experience as a high school counselor and as an elementary counselor for another 12. At both levels, I created programs which won state and national awards for parent involvement and child development. I was one of the first counselors in the nation to introduce Dr. Becky Bailey’s Conscious Discipline® as a school wide discipline approach. In 2004, the Character Education Partnership in Washington D.C. recognized Bessey Creek Elementary as one of only ten National Schools of Character for this pioneering approach. The puppet shows I wrote to model these emotional life skills and how to teach them won a National Promising Practice Award.

I offer to you someone who practices mental health therapy in the every day arenas of our lives- families, schools and in all of our connections. My work is two fold, individual therapy and educational consulting. If you are ready for effective change, then I would like to help you. During my career I provided therapeutic support during times of grief, trauma, divorce, death, national weather disasters, homicides, the creation of blended families, incarceration and job loss. At the same time, I created my own blended family and became a caregiver. I have been trained in most of the major modalities of therapy. I turn often to Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Play therapy, Sand Tray, Trauma-focused Brief therapy and the 7 skills of Conscious Discipline to help my clients find useful solutions to better their lives and institutions. I work with ages 5 through the elderly, especially those in a caregiving role; together we create a peaceful, calm environment in which solutions emerge.

A Conscious Discipline® principle is “the only person we can make change is ourself.”  If you are ready to consider some changes to better your life circumstances, then I am here to help. I bring a blend of personal challenges and professional experience in both education and mental health to support you.
